Gulf of Saint-Tropez
The gulf under canvas — and the only way to be inside Les Voiles rather than watching it
Half and full days from the Nouveau Port — the Pampelonne anchorages, Cap Camarat, and the Baie des Canoubiers.
Westward to Porquerolles and Port-Cros, or eastward to the Lérins, Antibes and the Cap. Routed around the wind, not around a brochure.
Tender drop-offs at Pampelonne, tables held ashore, and transfers arranged through our Saint-Tropez concierge.
✦ Our Commitment ✦
The gulf rewards preparation. Berths, tender slots at the beach clubs and the right departure hour are what separate an easy week from a frustrating one.
Nouveau Port places are limited and allocated early. We also hold alternatives at Les Marines de Cogolin and Port Grimaud, fifteen minutes across the water.
Tender arrivals at the beach clubs are managed by slot in season. We coordinate the drop-off with the table, rather than leaving it to the afternoon.
The gulf builds a short chop from the east after midday. Our captains plan the passages around it — the difference between a swim and a crossing.
Most of our Saint-Tropez charters run alongside a house ashore. One team coordinates both, as with our Saint-Tropez villa rentals.
✦ Expert Guide ✦
Day Charter
Out of the Nouveau Port, around Cap Saint-Pierre and the Baie des Canoubiers, and around the point to Pampelonne in twenty minutes. Anchor off the beach, tender in for lunch, swim through the afternoon, and return into the port at the hour the village is at its best. It is the single most requested day on this coast, and it works.
The Islands
Ninety minutes west of the gulf lie the Îles d’Hyères, and the water there is the clearest in mainland France. Port-Cros is a national park with strict anchoring zones; Porquerolles has beaches on its northern side and a village worth an hour. It is a long day or a comfortable overnight, and it is the part of the coast most guests have never seen.
Extended
Eastward: the Estérel, the Îles de Lérins, Cap d’Antibes and Villefranche. Westward: the Hyères islands and the Var coast. Our marine team plans each anchorage and port stop — the full sequence is set out in our note on how a charter is actually arranged.
Les Voiles
In the first week of October the gulf fills with classic and modern sailing yachts for the finest regatta in the Mediterranean. Charter a participating yacht and race, or take a motor yacht and watch from the water — the only vantage that does it justice. Berths and entries are committed by spring.
✦ Planning ✦
The gulf before it fills. Berths available, anchorages empty, and the water warm enough from mid-June. Our preferred window for a first charter here.
Saint-Tropez at full amplitude. Berths in the Nouveau Port are committed by January and tender slots at Pampelonne are managed by the hour. Book early or base at Cogolin.
The warmest sea of the year, followed by the regatta in the first week of October. The best charter fortnight of the Saint-Tropez calendar.
✦ FAQ ✦
For yachts up to around 30 metres, with sufficient notice, generally yes outside the peak fortnight of August. Above that size the port has very few places and they are allocated early. Where the Nouveau Port is not possible we base the yacht at Les Marines de Cogolin or Port Grimaud, both fifteen minutes across the gulf, with a tender running to the village.
Around twenty minutes from the Nouveau Port, out past Cap Saint-Pierre and around the point. The bay is open to the east, so it is calmest in the morning and can build a short chop after midday — which is why we plan the anchoring early and the return before the wind fills in.
Yes, and it is how most guests arrive at Pampelonne in season. Tender drop-offs at the beach clubs are managed by slot in July and August, so the arrival is coordinated with the table rather than improvised. Our concierge holds both.
Mid-June and September. The water is warm, the anchorages are usable, and the gulf has not reached the density of August. The first week of October brings Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, which is exceptional from the water and requires booking by spring.
It is our most frequent arrangement here. The yacht and the house are coordinated by the same team, with transfers, provisioning and staff aligned across both — see our Saint-Tropez villa rentals.
