Thirty-Eight Knots Off Cannes

RAMSES II carries the unmistakable line of the Italian yards that shaped the Riviera's fast era: a long, low profile, a dark hull that reads almost black against the water, and a fly deck that seems to float above it. Thirty-two metres of Leopard, comprehensively refitted in 2022, she crosses from Cannes to Saint-Tropez before lunch and settles into an anchorage as though she had never been in a hurry.

Three MTU diesels give her a top speed of thirty-eight knots and a comfortable thirty at cruise, figures that change the shape of a charter week rather than simply flatter a specification sheet. The Iles de Lerins are twenty minutes away, Saint-Tropez a little over an hour, Monaco and the Italian border well within a morning. Guests who would otherwise spend a day repositioning instead wake in one bay and take lunch in another. Stabilisers working at anchor and underway keep the ride even, and a planing hull drawing only 1.2 metres lets her come close to the shore where deeper boats must stand off. Her outdoor spaces are arranged for long, unhurried days. The main aft deck seats the full party around a single table, shaded and open to the water, and turns at dusk into the natural centre of the evening, the lights of Cannes drawing a line across the bay behind it. Forward, a sun lounge sits clear of the traffic of the boat, private enough for a morning alone with a book. The fly deck, reached by an open stair, carries its own seating, sunpads and bar service, and remains the best seat aboard when she is running. Aft, a swim platform opens onto the water toys and the tender. Inside, dark polished woods and pale upholstery hold to the period in which she was built, warmed rather than dated by the refit. The main salon runs the full beam, with a lounge forward and a dining area set against the windows, air conditioned throughout and served by a fully equipped galley. Four cabins sleep eight, a master, a VIP, a double and a twin, and a crew of three attends a maximum of ten guests on day charter. Wi-Fi and satellite television are available throughout. A summer week aboard usually begins in Cannes or Golfe-Juan, takes in the pine and clear water of Sainte-Marguerite, then runs west to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez for Pampelonne and the evening in the old port. East, Cap Ferrat, Villefranche and Monaco make an equally natural line, with San Remo and the Ligurian coast within reach of a single day.
